ISDN2 / ISDN2e [top]

It's not just big corporations that need high-quality telephone services. More and more people are working in small offices or at home.

ISDN2e is BT's high-performance voice and data service for small offices. With a basic installation you can connect up to 8 digital devices and make 2 calls at once.

ISDN also offers 64/128k Internet access - useful if Broadband hasn't yet reached your exchange.

A 2-channel ISDN2e circuit costs about the same as 2 conventional phone lines, but it offers higher quality and far greater potential.

ISDN30 / ISDN30e [top]

ISDN30 and ISDN30e are high-performance voice and data services for modern business. Their digital technology gives you exceptional line quality.

  • Connections are almost instant
  • Voice communications with other ISDN users are crystal clear
  • You can send and receive calls to all telephone subscribers, whether they use digital or analogue equipment
  • Data transfer is fast and error free
  • There is a wide range of compatible equipment, giving you access to the latest digital technology
  • You can provide your staff with individual DDI numbers
  • Each ISDN30 connection provides between 8 and 30 independent 64k channels. You can combine these for bandwidth-hungry applications such as high-quality video conferencing or transferring large data files.
  • ISDN is ideal for wide-area networks linking two or more offices.

Kilostream [top]

For companies that communicate regularly or at a length from the same locations, KiloStream digital services will help them to enjoy substantial cost savings. KiloStream is primarily used for data applications, but can provide both data and voice transmissions and can also replace a number of co-routed analogue private circuits. KiloStream is a range of private circuits for dedicated, full-time connection between two locations in all business areas of the UK. They offer transmission speeds from 2.4kbit/s to 64kbit/s and a range of interfaces, including X.21 and X21 bis (V.24 and V.35).

Features

  • Kilostream offers a wide range of speeds from 2.4kbit/s up to 64kbit/s.Because KiloStream does not require the use of modems, it can the reduce costs of analogue services and improve the overall quality and reliability.
  • High quality and physical point-to-point connectivity also assures high levels of security - with TotalCare also included within rental price.
  • The geographical coverage extends to over 99% of the UK, making BT the only network supplier able to offer narrowband private circuits throughout the UK.

Leased Line Services [top]

What is a leased line?

A Leased Line, also known as a ‘private circuit’ or ‘T1 leased line’, is a permanent dedicated communication link between two points. The link is separate from the public telephone network and is reserved exclusively for the leased line purchaser. Where a company's Internet usage is intensive, a leased line provides a far more cost-effective connectivity solution than more traditional ones such as ISDN.

A leased line can be a twisted pair, coax or fibre optic cable and may involve all sorts of other hardware such as coils, transformers, amplifiers and regenerators. Leased lines have varying data transfer rates the highest being a T1 line, which provides a maximum speed of 1.544Mbps. These transfer rates can be divided between voice and data signals using multiplexing techniques. If the leased line is being used to carry voice data then the line can also be connected to a phone system.

Large companies generally use leased lines to connect several geographically different networks within their organisation.Typical examples of this service are the BT Kilostream, BT Kilostream N, BT Megastream and BT LES Lan Extension Services available in 10MB, 100MB and 1000MB speeds with ethernet presentation ideal for offices within a short distance of each other.

The lease line is also widely used to connect offices to the web via a point of presence (POP), which is a fast connection directly to the Internet. A T1 leased line can connect over hundreds of users to the Internet effortlessly as long they are just browsing, a problem would only occur if they were to all start downloading files like MP3s. This service is known as Leased Line Internet Access with the most common being the BTnet Start and BTnet Flex leased Line internet Access Services.

Megastream [top]

BT MegaStreams are available nationally. Generally, BT will provide the whole leased line from end to end. MegaSteam2, a 2Mbit/s leased line, is the standard product.

Features

  • MegaStream provides 'always on' high speed voice and data transmission across point-to-point Private Circuits.
  • It enables users to connect remote networks, mainframes and complete systems, permanently and securely.
  • MegaStream can drive a business to new levels of productivity.
  • Companies that rely heavily on voice and data backbone networks, or who are expanding their e-commerce operations should consider upgrading to a MegaStream solution.
  • There is a choice of 2, 8, 34, 45, 140, 155 or 622 Mbit/s bandwidth, Interface options that include X.21, G.703 and STM1.

IP Clear [top]

The scalable, ‘wires only’ IP network access service, IP Clear, can link multiple sites together to create an IP-based, secure virtual private network. Those networks can then be used as the platform for company-wide intranets, extranets or inter-site business connectivity.

  • Highly flexible virtual private network service, enabling new sites to be quickly incorporated and meshed into your network.
  • Core network owned, maintained and managed end-to-end by BT with resilience measures designed in, so ensuring security and reliability.
  • Easy migration from other virtual private networks to IP VPN, so cost-effective way to introducing IP or add new sites.
  • Wide choice of access speeds to 1Gbps, allowing service to be quickly scaled up or down to meet specific requirements.
  • Delivers any-to-any connectivity between sites, reducing expense associated with reconfiguring and managing connections between multiple networks.
  • Can be used as convergence solution for running voice and data over one network, which reduces infrastructure and management costs.

Sites throughout the UK and beyond can be brought together into a wide area network (WAN) to share information and applications with IP Clear, even if their networks use different protocols.

This secure, reliable Internet protocol (IP) virtual private network lets you configure your network to meet exact corporate requirements.

It runs over BT’s multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) network, providing a cost-effective, highly scalable route to direct information exchange between connected locations.

What’s more, if there is a fault on the network, information will always reach your required destination as traffic simply takes a different path.

Migration path

IP Clear’s wide range of ‘always-on’ network access speeds also includes ‘flex', high-speed Gigabit Ethernet options and ADSL. Secure dial-in is also available for smaller locations, homeworkers and teleworker via PSTN, ISDN or mobile devices.

Once deployed, IP Clear provides the capability to host and switch applications and content between multiple sites. Business continuity is, therefore, ensured, while disruption caused by upgrades or maintenance is prevented.

It also interworks with IP-enabled services, providing your organisation with a migration path from BT’s FrameStream, CellStream and SMDS services.

Cost-effective

IP Clear delivers a VPN solution that offers:

  • Unbundled, ‘wires-only’, so you can use existing equipment or equipment from preferred suppliers
  • Cost-effective way to build meshed network as there are no usage-based permanent virtual circuit (PVC) charges
  • Capability to adjust bandwidth quickly to suit users and applications as needed
  • Scalability for adding new sites quickly, merging with other organisations or bandwidth increases
  • Business continuity options including synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) delivery and dual-diversely routed access circuits

IP Clear with CoS

IP Clear’s differentiated classes of service (CoS) provide a platform that enables you to converge voice and data traffic on to one network. Converging traffic can then cut infrastructure and management costs.
